So much JOY!

Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary

Mary visits Elizabeth

Today we hear about Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth. Elizabeth was old, like the age of a grandmother, but she had never had any children. Until now! Now she was pregnant for the first time, even though she was wrinkled and had grey hair! So there were two women, both with babies growing inside of them, together! (Who was Mary's baby?)

" When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, 'Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy.'”

Did you hear what happened when Mary greeted Elizabeth? Elizabeth's baby jumped inside of her! He leaped! Why did he do that? Have you ever jumped up and down because you were so excited, and so happy? Elizabeth's baby was full of JOY! That means he was so full of happiness, it overflowed from his body, and he leaped.

Why was the baby so full of joy?

He jumped for joy when his mother Elizabeth heard Mary say hello to her, and remember, who was inside of Mary? When Jesus is close to us, do we get so full of joy, too?
